Dr. Roger Stough

Policies
Dr. Stough received his B.S. from Ohio State University in the areas of international trade and economics, his M.A. from the University of South Carolina in geography, and his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in the areas of geography and environmental engineering. In 1977, Dr. Stough joined the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He was founding director of the Center for Metropolitan Affairs and Public Policy at the college. Subsequently, he was involved in extensive program planning, including research programs and the College's Master of Public Administration Program.
In 1983, he joined the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in Indianapolis. In September 1990, he assumed the position of the Northern Virginia Chair in Public Policy in the Institute of Public Policy at George Mason University. He currently serves as Associate Director of the institute and as director of the university's Center for Regional Analysis and Transportation Policy Program. He also serves as Associate Dean for Research and External Relations at George Mason’s School of Public Policy, and he is Director of the Mason Enterprise Center at George Mason.
While at the College of Charleston, Dr. Stough was the planner in charge of the Regional Strategic Plan developed for Waccamaw/Myrtle Beach, which is a major southeast-coast resort area. Dr. Stough has also had considerable experience in developing projects concerning the relationship between tourism and economic development, particularly issues relating to the development of community management programs for tourism development. Other key areas in tourism-related research include tourism planning, tourism development, economic analysis, grant writing, and geographic analysis.
While at Indiana University, Dr. Stough was Associate Director of the Regional Economic Development Institute. During this period, he was also a special advisor to the Indiana Corporation for Science and Technology, an economic development consultant to the Netherlands National Research and Development Institute of Applied Technology, and advisor to the Korean Institute for Science and Technology on the role of science and technology in local and regional economic development. His current work focuses on the roles of economic development and environmental policy in regional systems in Europe, Asia and North America.
Dr. Stough has numerous publications including several books and monographs on topics ranging from infrastructure to tourism development to environmental design and management. Dr. Stough also writes extensively on regional development issues, and has recently published two books on the topic of “Regional Economic Development and Theories of Endogenous Regional Growth.” Dr. Stough’s research interests in Intelligence Transportations Systems include evaluation, telecommuting, and traveler information systems. His extensive background provides the Firm’s clients with innovative solutions across a broad range of business and policy issues.
